This course will be modified to the level of expertise in the audience and can be adapted in the classroom for multiple levels of experience and understanding. However, the basis for this program is for operator proficiency and instructor certification, therefore attendees should have a general understanding of the principles of personal defense as well as a reasonable level of physical fitness.
Training Goals and Objectives
The goal of the training program is segmented in two parts. First, to certify participants in the Basic certification training format or recertify those operators who have not had an opportunity to retrain.. The second part of the program is to develop instructor to prepare and condition the future attendees to safely instruct in the wear, carry, and deployment of the ASP Baton and other expandable batons as an intermediate weapon to neutralize aggressive / physical behavior, subject control, containment, and threat neutralization techniques in both the patrol and tactical environments.. The program will establish foundations in the understanding of use of force, reasonable expectations and applications to gain subject compliance.
Training Audience, Format and Content
This course is most successful when taught and received with audiences of 30 officers or fewer, but has been given in groups of 50 or more with successful reviews. The smaller groups enable students to have more direct instructional interaction.
This training courses is designed in a 2-day format with day one dedicated to the exploration of the ASP Baton / and other expandable batons, its use in subject control and practical instructor development. The course is designed to run from 0800 to 1600 hours each day. Day two will be devoted to instructor development, static, dynamic proficiency examinations and confrontational drilling.
